05.26 Draft Questions- Khani Priest

  1. There is strength in reclaiming a name that was once used as an insult. It is very true in Ecuador with the word "puta" meaning "slut", but has since been embraced by feminist movements, "...the Putas function as a collective of representatives of other collectives, including LGBTQIA+, sex-worker, and trans-feminist groups, working together..." (Amor). How does embracing an insulting word change the narrative of said word?
  2. Julieta Paredes explains communitarian feminism, "...we are defined by our proposal of community and our proposal of society as a Community of communities." (Interview, p. 22). Why is it important to understand that community is present in all forms of feminism?
  3. Thinking more on the concept that "Patriarchy Recycles Itself" in "Dissidence and Communitarian Feminism", why is it vital to recognize the similarities of the past and present (feudal serfs, slaves, etc.)? How can we better understand this concept of the patriarchy recycling itself?
