5/4 Monday Draft Questions - Albert Lam
- From Martha Gonzalez's UW Graduate School profile, we learn that "the UW was initially very empty space for her." She later found a pocket of diversity and a smaller group in which she felt she was understood. Would you consider this a normal experience at the UW for most students? Should a university seek to promote the creation of smaller, more intimate social circles, or a larger, less focused community that is still accepting and supportive, but less so?
- From Gonzalez's "Caminos y Canciones en Los Angeles, CA", she says that "Music is not the soundtrack to the movement. It is the movement". Of all the songs we have listened to in this class, which song exemplifies this quote the best to you, and why?
- Given that both fandango and altars are transgenerational, how else do they compare and contrast?
- Sylvia Santos and Martha Gonzalez both have lived in LA, an international entertainment capital, and approach their music with a strong emphasis on their culture. How might LA have influenced their success? Some topics to consider include geography, industry, and demographics.
