5/4 Questions - Haleh Mawson

1. The song "Chocolate" is about the exploitation of children in agriculture, specifically chocolate production. I was reminded of the quote (which I wrote down on a bookmark but did not attribute to anyone, so apologies to the unknown author): "Weigh it in the balance with the freedom of one single human soul." The point of "Chocolate" seems to be that the world as a whole has decided that goods are weighed heavier on that scale, and arguably, when you purchase Nutella or something similar, you are agreeing. Who bears the blame, though? The consumers who support the system, or the system itself?

2.  What is the connection between physical movement and spiritual/internal growth and empowerment? Viveros AvendaƱo says it brings a dancer closer to the state of Nepantla, but she also mentions the need for stillness and deep listening. Is both movement and stillness required for such change?

3. Is there something special about fandango that makes it such an excellent facilitator for community gatherings and artivismo? Or do all types of music and dance contain that potential?

4. Entre Mujeres involves both Mexican and Chicana artists. What's the value of transnational art as opposed to art created solely within the bounds of one country?
