5/6 Brainstorm

Patrisia Gonzales takes on a more comprehensive approach when describing "technologies" associated with resilience practices. In Ceremony of Time: Time as Medicine, Gonzales talks about various tools such as books, songs, calendar systems, and birthing customs as resilience practices embedded in indigenous knowledge (IK). The conceptual thread that can be formulated from the reading is the idea of time and its relation to technology. Since time is a non-linear entity, it serves as a medium through which the past, present, and future can be connected. In 'Girl in a Coma' Tweets Chicanafuturism: Decolonial Visionaries, Michelle Habell-Pallan discusses the linkage of these ideas allowing for technology to fuel Chicanafuturism. The technology discussed by Gonzales may allow individuals to craft a future based on their own ideas and values. The 'girl in coma' used the modern technology of Twitter to get her idea across but individuals from other generations used technology present in their respective time periods. In the video, Clumsy Sky, Jim Mendiola depicts a legacy of performances via various photos on a wall (Mendiola, 3:53). The final picture is of the group, 'girl in a coma', which showcases the relevance of this technique. The pictures on the wall are an important part of the video that illustrate how the past shapes the present and future.
