Brainstorm 6 - Caroline Johnson

Throughout the chapter of “Ceremony of Time: Time as Medicine” the practice of midwifery is discussed as well as how these indigenous cultures use their traditional medicinal practices. The practice of being able to feel the importance of time is discussed over and over again in this chapter. It is said that “Using the medicine of time retrospectively, one can go back to the moment when the accident occurred to soften the moment of injury. That’s how sacred this knowledge is” (7). When a person is born, that time carries important significance. Different parts of the day, when the sun rises and falls and all in between, all of these times have important meaning that can be used in medicine to have certain healing powers and other powerful meanings. This reading connects to the discussion of Girl in a Coma and the discussion of technology. This articles shows the idea of using traditional knowledge while "'Girl in a Coma' Tweets Chicanafuturism: Decolonial Visionaries, New Media and Archivista Praxis” says explicitly how bands such as Girl in a Coma who use social media and are using new modern technology is moving towards modern uses. It says that “Although Chicanafuturism ‘questions the promises of science, technology, and humanism for Chicanas, Chicanos, and other people of color’ (Ramírez 2008, 187), recognizing that the result has often been dystopic realities, the movement is willing to experiment with new technologies to harness their emancipatory potentials”(Habell-Pallan 162). Additionally, shows how the music video is a collection of different times which connects to IK, "illustrating how the past, present, and future of Tejano and rock collide”(Habell-Pallan  167) . “Clumsy Sky” shows Convivencia as it shows how the power of music can bring people together from various backgrounds to form a strong community by being together.
