Brainstorm 6 - Karen Velderrain-Lopez

In the text 'Ceremony of Time,' there are many technologies that are referenced. Among them include a woman's braid and a haul. They are referred to as birthing technologies from indigenous practices. These technologies are used to describe the resilience practices that were common at that time. They showed the resilience of birthing, motherhood, and womanhood. They were able to demonstrate "their power and community authority from their relationship to the natural world and their knowledge of the body" (76) and with this demonstrate resilience through how they express these relationships. Another form of technology includes the way that stories are communicated. They were held onto by these communities and the women in the communities via oral communication and infusing this knowledge into other forms of art, community building, and other resilience practices. 'Girl in a Coma' talks about how they mix inspiration from their heritage by using motifs and inspiration from other Latinx song styles and mixing it with their current genre. It allows for a resilience practice similar to that of the women holding on to past parts of their culture were.
