Brainstorm #6- Khani Priest

The "technologies" Gonzales describes are scarves that have many uses during birth, headdresses filled with "meaning, intent, prayers, and energies that allow them to mediate with the natural world" (Gonzales, p. 80), and the significance of the umbilical chord. These technologies are things that help women in their IK practices and were used regularly by them. A conceptual thread I interpreted had to do with the strength of resilience practices and how they are transcend time. All three pieces held an aspect that either presented, proved or showed how, no matter what, these practices will live on in the future just as much as in the present. This is powerful statement considering colonialism wanted to completely undo the practice of midwifey and still, it goes on today. The same is true with what was shown in the video as well as what was presented in Michelle Habell-Pallan's essay. "Covivencia" is represented in the "Clumsy Sky" video through the crowd of dancing people and the grandson-grandfather scene. This show through the companionship and the pure joy that the people are feeling. These people are all different in some way or another, yet they can all enjoy the moment through music and dance. They coexist in this moment which is literally the practice of "covivencia".
