Brainstorm #7 - Carter Rowell

The utilization of social media is a perfect example of the Chicanxfuturism that we have previously discussed. The applications of science and technology are constantly expanding, and the fact that they are being used to forward social justice movements is inspiring. Social media can be used by social movements to "build visibility, circulate their messages, and strengthen movement identity" (Costanza-Chock 152). This is exactly what Chicanxfuturism aims to do: utilize modern techniques in order to reach a larger audience and spread social justice messages.
By utilizing current technologies such as social media, Chicanas create a presence over the Internet, which is a large component of society in today's age. This allows them to fight back against social death by showing that they are just as present and important as any other group of people. It makes Chicanas more visible, which is the opposite of social death, or the exclusion and refusal of peoples.
Participating in social media is definitely a resilience practice, as it shows that Chicanas can adapt with the times and use current technologies to achieve justice just as efficiently as they used technologies of the past. "There's still a long way to go" in terms of achieving social justice (Seif 10). Because of this, Chicanas need to be able to utilize current technologies and practices in order to get the message out and make the movement more successful. The fact that they are doing this is testament to their resilience.
