Brainstorm Week 7 - Eric Fong

Julio Salgado's use of social media is similar to the idea of Chicanxfuturism in the way in which it seeks to utilize technologies to bring awareness to themselves and their messages. Social media is a tool that can subvert marginalized communities but also act as a gathering place to unite fragmented groups. "I can’t speak for the whole Latino community. I speak for me. What I can do is collaborate, reach out. One of the things is the inclusion of others who are not Latino. “ (Layers of Humanity, 305).  Julio Salgado works towards the previously mentioned sentiment.
Julio Salgado's short skits of Undocumented and Awkward serves as a beacon for likeminded individuals to gather with their shared experiences. Salgado's videos allow other marginalized communities to feel less alone as well as working to bring awareness and humanity to the issues that face undocumented individuals. The insensitivity facing undocumented immigrants and their issues are illustrated through comical skits such as the wealthy student that doesn't understand the issue with needing to work for tuition or not having opportunities to advance ones' career post-high school  (money or lack of hiring opportunities).
Salgado is avoiding social death and is a practice of resilience by bringing awareness and marginalized communities together. He does not seek to divide but unit: he will collaborate with the marginalized group.
