Brainstorm Week 7- Khani Priest

The use of social media links to Chicanxfuturisms through the idea of "new age" technology and connectedness. Chicanxfuturism is a concept that circulates around the idea of healing and strength in the future despite/because of the past. It is upheld through critical representations of Chicanx in science fiction (usually) from feminist writers. Undocuqueer use of social media in their own way translates to a type of practice of Chicanxfuturism in a literal sense. The Undocuqueer youth work towards a better future for themselves and others like them that have yet to be born or grow up. They are practicing resilience in their drive to better their circumstances in the political and human fields. So yes, their use of social media is a form of resilience because it's their way of growing stronger in their identities, movement and community. Cacho's description of "social death" does apply directly to Undocuqueer considering their lack of sense of belonging in both social movements that are important. Some LGBTQ+ groups don't accept their undocumented status while some undocumented groups don't accept them being queer. They are left feeling dehumanized from both groups, however through their use of social media, they find strength in accepting their intersecting identity. They are able to form groups and relationships with others like them and are able to share their message too. With social media, they were able to use different media platforms to create a community where they embraced their identity. The ones who are Undocuqueer were able to combat "social death" through community and understanding which was brought together through their use of social media.
