Brainstorm week 9 - Nick Roberts

In Million's piece regarding the relationship between indigenous peoples and mother earth and what we can learn from their traditions. One of the most interesting aspects that I found was the idea of indigenous people and holistic politics. The idea that the earth should be considered in politics is not a very common practice in most places but I think that, if incorporated into our own political arenas, it would help us in creating a better system for ourselves and everyone who may be systematically oppressed in our current system. By considering what is fair to the earth as well as the people it makes it considerably harder for single people to exploit people and resources as the resources themselves are protected with the people. Not only that, by protecting the earth we ensure it can be used by future generations, and being by preserving the beauties the natural world holds I think we would be happier as a society than we currently are. We need to learn to respect the earth in the way these indigenous people always have and through that we may one day become a healthier and happier society that is more just for all who live within it.
