The other altars that spoke to me as well were the altars on the femicide in Juarez and the one on peace. Both of these make me think of our current crisis in the US with the deaths for Black Americans killed at the hands of racism and police brutality. When I think about peace, I think about the justice that Black Americans call for when they ask for prosecution. It is important that we hear their voices and what they are asking for from us. When I also think of this crisis, I think of the killings of Black women that don't get as much attention. I would consider this a form of femicide as well as what is still continuing in Juarez. The work of altars help us understand the power these now silenced voices still have.
