Live Blog Post 2: Grace Grotz

Ofelia and her daughter, Rosanna, describe the process that goes into altar-making. Each altar they describe has a different theme/inspiration. Ofelia notes how she aims to honor how people were loved, not how they died, in her altars. She says the overall aesthetic, or how an altar makes you feel, is important. Rosanna also says altars are a space for connection, healing, and the reclaiming of one’s culture. To Ofelia, altars are a “call to action”.
Then, more panelists are introduced, including Omitosin Fayemi and Patricia Chookenshaa. Patricia is an activist from White Center, which is an area very close to my home and familiar to me. It is inspiring to see so many women coming together from different places and fields of activism.
