Listening to the panelists discuss spirituality and how that is expressed through the community was very powerful and amazing to think about. I loved the idea of these gatherings in remembrance of someone who is moving on to the spiritual world where they will become one of your ancestors to give wisdom and guide you on your path. This practice allows communities to express the grief of those who have been lost and show respect as they move on and are remembered by all those around them to continue living. This is so different than traditional beliefs in death by those in the US and understanding these beliefs and seeing the positive effects it can have on communities is amazing and I hope this idea is carried on for future generations. It really focuses on the ideas of the transfer of energy through grief and movement of the lost love one to the spirit world and to accept in their place in the hearts of those who remember them and in the spirit world.
