Monday Draft Questions - Caroline Johnson
1. “Programas Sin Verguenza” explains how these Chicanx radio stations were very effective in allowing for communities to be created and talking about certain issues. Do you think it could have been as effective through television or other mediums?
2. KDNA and other radio stations did not have the funding to purchase new reels and had to record over these reels erasing previous radio shows (177). How is this an aspect of what Chicanxfuturism is fighting against? How does this relate to social death?
3. One of the reasons members of Latino communities were not tested as heavily in the beginning of coronavirus was because “Residents there are also less likely to have traveled abroad — one of the early conditions for getting tested — or have private insurance” (Fowler). How does this link to the idea of neoliberalism?
4. The articles written on undocumented immigrants and Latino communities during coronavirus differ from what “Programas Sin Verguenza” talked about in that they are not someone in the community who is going through this exact issue talking about it. How does this impact the way the article is read?
