Monday Draft Week 10 - Abby Hecko
- In the article, Why COVID-19 is hitting Washington Latinos especially hard, it states, “Latinos may also delay seeking medical care, either because they are uninsured or fearful of using public benefits such as Medicaid.” Do medical providers have a solution to giving tests to uninsured people?
- The article also explains, “Trump administration’s so-called public charge rule, which aims to deny green cards to immigrants who use, or are likely to use, public benefits such as food stamps or Medicaid.” How would our country benefit from this? These essential workers and the communities this rule targets do so much for our country, why make this rule?
In the article, Undocumented workers fend for themselves with little COVID-19 help, it states, “undocumented immigrants like Inocencio do not benefit from that assistance, even if they’ve been paying taxes in this country for many years.” How is it that Inocencio pays bills but isn’t receiving any of the benefits all other taxpayers get? How is that legal?
- Other states are beginning to create funds to help give money to the undocumeted immigrants in their areas. What is holding Washington back from doing so?
