Monday Draft Week 10 - Sarah Yang

1. The article “Why COVID-19 is hitting Washington Latinos especially hard” discusses the problem with rent that many people, especially people of color and Latinos, are struggling with right now. How could the government help with the rent crisis right now? Thinking long term, what consequences could happen if the rent crisis worsens?
2. In “Undocumented workers fend for themselves with little COVID-19 help”, Fowler writes that Trump administered a “so-called “public charge” [that makes] it more difficult for low-income immigrants in the U.S. who use public benefits, such as food stamps, welfare and Medicaid, to qualify for a green card or extend or change their temporary status in the U.S.”. How will this implementation affect people after the COVID-19 situation dies down?
3. Radio KDNA’s promise to its listeners is to provide quality “radio programming to help such communities overcome barriers of literacy, language, discrimination, poverty, and illness”. How does this tie in with Chicanxfuturism? How is providing education with accessibility one of the most important things that KDNA is doing?
4. ‘Programas Sin Vergüenza (Shameless Programs)’ discusses women of color in politics and women artists who work towards a better world. Can a woman really ever “succeed” or “achieve success” in business or politics without partaking in the patriarchal, capitalist society? How?
