When discussing the altar pictured below, Rosanna Esparza exclaims, “This piece is a treasure!” I couldn’t agree more with this statement. It was really interesting to hear how they have had this altar for almost 30 years. The altar is about a foot and a half high, meaning everything is miniature. This includes the miniature food sculpted by Doña Ofelia Esparza. I was excited to discover that they took this altar to the Smithsonian and it was interesting to learn how they use this altar to teach workshops. These are beautiful and inspiring works of art and I am very appreciative of the work put into this presentation and altars to honor the courage and resilience of their ancestors. Currently, the discussion is moving into a set of questions to be discussed by the panelists.
