After watching the Ofrendas for the Future online gathering, I was elated that Ofelia Esparza and her daughter were able to attend the event. I was intrigued to learn more about their story including the honoring of Esparza's ancestors. For instance, I was amazed to learn about Esparza's great grandmother and how she cared for Esparza's mother. She also mentioned how important her brother was for her as a teacher. Esparza believes that the use of the ofrenda is very important to commemorate family and loved ones. There are many different kinds of pieces that Esparza uses as altars to honor her family I feel like we can learn a lot about altar-making and its importance in remembering and honoring individuals from Esparza.
