Thursday Draft Questions - Olivia Brunner-Gaydos


  1. Paul Watkins and Rebecca Caines' piece "View of Cyphers: Hip-Hop and Improvisation" describes cypher as "to fight back, to borrow, to steal, to represent and to collaborate, whilst suddenly - suprisingly - at times aggressively claim your own voice, your own right to speak." How is covivencia represented in cyphers? 
  2. BBC's audio feature on feminista hip hop artists discusses how these women are empowered by hip hop, what are the similarities between these women using music to spread their message and women in rock, for example Maya Jupiter, using theirs? 
  3. The "451 Bio's Feminista Hip-Hop Artists from Ecuador" show that all these women come from different backgrounds. How is it that these women with such incredible stories don't have huge amounts of publicity? Why isn't their message spread as loud as it should be?
  4. Cayetana Salao,  a feminist artist and activist for LGBTI rights said "no religious principle should ever violate any human right." Are there any way's we see religious principles violating human rights in the United States today?
