Thursday, May 7th Draft Questions - Noah Krohngold

1. Catherine Ramirez asks her audience to consider what happens when we read Chicano/a texts "science fiction" instead of the other labels that we might subconsciously associate with Chicano/a artforms (Ramirez, 190). What kinds of factors lead us to wrongly associate specific art forms to different ethnicities, and how can we rectify these mistakes?

2, Catherine Ramirez notes that Marion C. Martinez's work "recognizes that the sacred and divine may be found in the everyday, material world" (Ramirez, 72). This is a concept that some may have begun to disregard based on the fictional value we assign objects in order to make a profit and exchange goods. How does neoliberalism contribute to our skewed vision for the ordinary?

3. Marion C. Martinez tends to demystify the technology and ordinary we see in the world. What value does this demystification play in promoting technology among less-exposed communities and how does technology mystify itself from communities (in terms of socioeconomic status, legislative decisions, etc.)?

4. Social media plays a large role in helping the powerless and disenfranchised find their own communities which can positively and negatively impact those involved. What kind of protections should be in place to protect people from censorship of their thoughts and opinions online, and how far should these protections extend?
