1. In 'Deus ex Machina,' it is described that 'Hispanos have been excluded from the world of science' (64). How do these assumptions hurt Hispanics today and how has this been perpetuated in today's world?
2. "How did social media unite and empower DREAMers?" describes how DREAMers have faced many challenges and were able to advocate for themselves using "political socialization" (Basma). How has this changed the resilience practices we see today for both individuals and larger movements? How has it impacted said movements?
3. In Umoja's Search Engines article, she talks about how womxn, and especially womxn of color, are fetishized and describes that "These search engine results, for women whose identities are already maligned in the media, only further debase and erode efforts for social, political, and economic recognition and justice" (38). Despite Google and other tech companies tracking data from its users and having ads and recommendations based upon that data, how can these companies be held accountable and how can these data problems by these companies so that communities aren't fetishized against a white standard and develop a level of equality amongst all of its users?
4. Catherine Ramirez talks about representation in the reading "Afrofuturism/Chicanafuturism." Why is it important that Latinx and other groups are included in STEM, and how does representation in general impact groups in regards to expectations, stereotypes, etc?
