The conference started with an introduction to the conference and the agenda for the day. Throughout the introduction, the different hosts and guests, including Michelle Habell Pallan and Lulu Carpenter. The hosts also held a moment of science for black lives, which was very powerful. After that, Polly Olsen, a member of the Yakima Nation, gave a blessing and acknowledgment of the indigenous land we are all on. Then, there was a music and dance break where Giovanna White, a UW graduate, danced to connect the audience to their heritage. Finally, the last part of the introduction was the first raffle give away! After the introduction, Rosanna and Ofelia Esparza started their portion!
