I thought it was very powerful hearing from Ophelia Esparza, who has been nationally and globally recognized for her work, explaining how this tradition has been passed down from generation to generation. Generations before her, her family practiced the traditions of altar making and other spiritual practices including food making. "The most important education is the one you receive at home" is a powerful cultural statement because she is recognizing the influence of family and ancestry on legacy and life. Her family members were her teachers and gave her memories that have influenced how she has lived and the struggles that she has had to endure.
