I can not agree more with what Ofelia Esparza just said: the most important education is the education one receives from home.

There is a lot that can be learned from formal education, and this form of schooling may be best for career development and technical skills. However, one learns how to be a human at home; this is taught by parents and other family members.
You cannot learn compassion, empathy, or a passion for the world from school - you get that from parents and family, people who show you how to engage with the world and make an impact on the future. Hearing Ofelia Esparza talking about what she has learned from her family and ancestors and what they have given her is truly amazing and inspiring!

The picture below is of some of Ofelia Esparza's family members and ancestors, who have taught her many things.

It's amazing to see the enormous diversity of altars that Ofelia Esparza has created throughout her life! Below is a picture of an altar Ofelia created in 1992 to honor her husband, who passed away in 1991.
This altar was created primarily for the purpose of remembrance, which is a very common use of altars. However, Ofelia has also created numerous altars based around social justice, cultural diversity, peace, and a combination of those topics along with the honoring of tradition and ancestors.
The fact that Ofelia Esparza is still making altars to this day shows that their potential is unlimited. Based on the topic of an altar, they can reach different audiences, be more personal, or even have the possibility to shape the future of society.
