Tuesday 5/26 Draft Questions - Angie Lai

  1. In the article, "What Ecuador's Feminist History Can Teach Us All", Amor includes a quote from Nela Martínez that says, "Women are the memory of time wasted and reconquered". What do you think it mean for women to be the memory of time wasted and reconquered?
  2. In the interview with Julieta Parades, Parades says that "education is focused on domesticating individuals", and "schools and universities do not help build community or contribute to living well; they enhance intellectual professionalization far beyond the scope of specific problems of individuals and the communities" (124). Do you agree with this? Do you see this in your educational experience?
  3. A common thing that we've heard from guest speakers and seen in readings is a call to action. In the article "Dissidence and Community Feminism", Parades says that our patriarchal "system of oppressions… is not a natural system… and it is bound to fall by the historic revolutionary action of the people." I thought the framing of revolution and emancipatory action as something that is bound to happen is really interesting because it sort of creates a sense of urgency and necessity. Do you think patriarchy is bound to end? Since it is "not a natural system", do you think it is "bound to fall"?
